The Sacraments

Seven encounters with Christ that mark and sustain the life of faith — and exactly how to begin each one at St. Theresa.

Baptism

“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit” (CCC 1213). We can’t wait to celebrate with your family.

Infants and children up to age 6 — three steps: attend the baptism preparation class (required for parents and godparents, valid for three years), complete the paperwork including the godparent covenant and eligibility forms, then schedule the baptism with the parish office.

Adults and children 7 and older prepare through OCIA (adapted for children and teens) to receive Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist together.

Reconciliation (Confession)

In Confession we meet the mercy of God. All are welcome — whether it has been a week or many years. Our priests hear confessions every Saturday afternoon, and anytime by appointment through the parish office.

Children typically celebrate First Reconciliation during 2nd-grade sacrament preparation, ahead of First Communion.

Holy Eucharist & First Communion

The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life — Christ himself, truly present. See The Mass explained for what we believe.

First Communion: children prepare through 2nd-grade sacrament preparation alongside our catechesis programs, following the diocesan two-year catechesis requirement, with retreats and a signed parent commitment.

Confirmation

Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism. High-school youth may be confirmed as early as age 14 or grade 9 after two consecutive years of catechesis — preparation includes regular Mass attendance, all sessions, a retreat, a sponsor covenant, a saint report, and a service project. See Youth.

Adults seeking Confirmation prepare through OCIA.

Marriage

Congratulations on your engagement! Seek the counsel of our clergy as soon as possible — at least six months before your hoped-for wedding date — and please don’t set a date or book a reception before speaking with the clergy.

Setting a date: complete the marriage intake questionnaire, hear back from our staff, and confirm with the deposit and facility agreement.

Preparation: the PREPARE-ENRICH premarital inventory, five sessions with a sponsor couple (or the diocesan Together in God’s Love program), an introductory Natural Family Planning course, and planning the liturgy and wedding music with our team.

Anointing of the Sick

The Church prays for and anoints those who are seriously ill, facing surgery, or nearing the end of life. For an urgent need, call the parish office right away — (512) 451-5121 — where an after-hours emergency line is available. For funerals and bereavement support, see Funerals.

Holy Orders

If you sense God may be calling you to the priesthood or diaconate, we would love to walk with you — our parish has seen vocations flower from its pews since the beginning. Speak with one of our priests after Mass or through hello@st-theresa.org.
